The Fishnet Tight Trend

I can’t get away from fishnets on Instagram at the moment and it’s driving me mad. There is nothing chic or classy about fishnet tights, and there is nothing attractive about how the fishnet trend is being worn this season, or is it just me?

But, how do you make this wardrobe staple more winter friendly? According to the Kardashian's and Jenner's... all you have to do is throw a pair of your fishnets underneath! But does this really provide you much more warmth? The answer is no, and what seemed to be a cool weather trend, has now been carried into spring. While yes, we all want to stay warm during the winter, is that the real issue here with this so called "trend?" I personally think that we should be more concerned here with the fact that putting skimpy, slightly slutty tights under really ripped jeans has officially become a fashion statement - and not a good one.

It’s just another stupid trend in a long line of stupid trends that only exist on Instagram. These people can’t possibly be wearing fishnets underneath their mom jeans, in real life... right? And if they are, maybe we really need to start asking what it takes to be a ‘style blogger '. That being said, it’s a trend – either you’ll love it or you’ll hate it.

The controversial trend took off on the AW16 catwalks and we've spotted loads of celebs jumping on the bandwagon ever since - Kate Moss, Alexa Chung, Kendall Jenner and Gwyneth Paltrow to name just a few.

It’s the perfect example of how micro-trends tend to go viral within an insular community. Someone bangs a pair of fishnets under their ripped jeans, hashtags it and voilĂ ! It’s all over the ’gram within a week. Fishnets under pants (and over tops) is going to be one of those micro trends that disappears in the click of a finger. (I hope) Don’t believe everything you see on Instagram. Firstly, these influencers may be being paid to tell you that something is good, when they’d never really be caught dead in it.

The only time I say they look good is when a micro-sized fishnet is a worn, its a subtle way to sport the trend. From a distance it’s almost hard to tell that they are fishnets, thats why its so great.  Nobody wants to see the top of your tights sticking out your pants or skirt. It's Hideous.

I'd say happy shopping, but this is seriously one trend I cannot get behind, and I really hope none of you are giving life to this Kardashian induced catastrophe either. After all, I'm sure their next crazy fashion whim isn't too far off.

Everybody is different, and so is there fashion taste.  So, if you feel up to trying this trend here is some street Style inspiration below if you keen on trying the trend...

Trend Report: Statement Sleeve

HOW TO ROCK THE STATEMENT SLEEVE TREND

The statement sleeve is one of this season's biggest trends. Whether it be a trumpet, a ruffled or a balloon sleeve, a statement sleeve is easy to incorporate to an everyday outfit. While the exaggerated sleeves on the spring/summer 2017 catwalks featured huge ruffles and wide cuffs, the high street versions are much more wearable, providing a practical way to wear the trend.

I find statement sleeves an easy way to bring a little variety to your wardrobe, it’s flattering on virtually everyone, and it can be done as big or conservative as you would like to wear it.  They can add a unique feature to an otherwise basic outfit, and elevate something casual to something a little more interesting. An easy way to add a little drama to your sleeve is to opt for a trumpet sleeve, it adds a hint of fun to an otherwise pretty basic weekend top.

Whether it is a ruffle sleeve or a cutout sleeve, a statement sleeve is best worn with a simple bottom, which allows the sleeves to be the focus.

Here are a few of my current favourites.

Free Printable: Never stop Looking up

PRINTABLE INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE

Never stop looking up is a quote to inspire you.  Sometimes a quote can change your perspective or give you a little reminder and the boost you need to carry on in your day.  This whimsical phrase is all about never stop looking up, achieving goals and moving forward..

NEVER STOP LOOKING UP

You can download the quote artwork here.

This printable I’ve created can fit 20cm x 28cm (± 8" x 10") in size so that they can easily be printed and inserted into a standard size photo album. Photos are High resolution for optimal print quality.

But keep in mind these are for personal use only. I am giving them away because I didn't make up these quotes. I just collected them throughout the year and turned them into small graphics. They are not my words and certainly are not mine to sell.

Pins With Personality

Have you guys noticed that enamel pins have become a thing? recently I’ve seen so many rad ones popping up all around the place, and people rocking them on Social media. These old school enamel pins have been growing in popularity since 2015.

After finding a new audience on Instagram and social media, new companies online and on Etsy have popped up around the trend. Pop culture designs sell especially well.  Plus, they're a cute way to show off your individual style, and work for both men's and women's fashions.  These tiny markers let your fan flag fly, reflecting your personal style, niche interests and sense of humour.

Of course, a large part of their appeal is how accessible (and cost-effective) they are. How many wardrobe updates start at just R20? They're miniature works of art.  Not everyone can collect original paintings, but you can certainly own three – or 30 – quirky enamel pins.

Whether you’re wearing a blazer, denim jacket or baseball cap, have some fun with placing your pins. Either group them all together on a jacket collar, or spread them out on each side of your ensemble. The best thing about this trend is that there’s no wrong way to rock it!

Mixing prints and patterns has been a trend all year, and the same rules (or lack thereof) apply to this accessory. Add variety to your look by choosing an array of adornments – no combo of pins is off-limits this fall.

If there’s one thing we know to be true about pins, it’s that you can never choose just one to wear. Luckily for us, these tiny accessories are super affordable.

Whether you’re passionate about art, pop culture, sports or music, make sure your pins reflect your personality. It may be a small accessory – but it can make a big statement.

Fair warning, though: Their collectible nature can lead to addiction. Once you get started, you won't be able to stop.
